Centre for Defence Research and Development (CDRD)

The Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya, is pleased to announce that on August 9, 2024, our honours and third-year students visited the Centre for Defence Research and Development (CDRD), located at Mahenawaththa, Moragahahena Road, Pitipana, Homagama.

The chief officers warmly welcomed us and provided an introduction. S/Lt MGMUV Chandrasena, the research officer, gave an overview of the CDRD and its operations. This was followed by a productive Q&A session about their completed and ongoing research, during which we were encouraged to collaborate with them on new projects as trainee interns or to contribute to their current initiatives.

During the field visit, which was arranged by the CDRD, we had the opportunity to observe ongoing research in both the IT and GIS wing, as well as the electrical and mechanical wing.

As a final memento of our visit, a group photograph was taken. We are grateful to Major General B.I. Assalaratchi and his team for providing us with this opportunity, as it marks a significant milestone for our students as they embark on their careers in the research field
